- OBITUARY:
Philip C. Shute of Brockton, a veteran, former teacher and retired business owner, died Tuesday at Beth Israel Hospital. He was 80.
Mr. Shute grew up in Hyde Park.
He served in the Air Force Intelligence Unit in Germany for four years.
Mr. Shute graduated from Bridgewater State Teacher’s College. He then taught in the Randolph public schools for 12 years.
His love of history and interest in antiques eventually led him to leave teaching and start his own business, Shute Auction Gallery, originally opened in Norwell and later in Brockton.
Mr. Shute was active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, serving as president for several years.
Mr. Shute is survived by his wife, Corinne (Duffy); two daughters, Carolyn of Dedham and Susan Crowe of Brockton; a son, Richard of Brockton; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Russell & Pica Funeral Home, Brockton.
Burial will be private.
