John Adrian McIver[1]

-
Name John Adrian McIver [2] - My father, John A. McIver, was born in Kinkora, P.E.I. in 1878 and came to California in 1907. He was encouraged to settle in the bay area in California by his cousin, Michael McInnis (see the Harrington family) who lived in Oakland, California.
While studying for his California State Board to teach, he worked as a conductor on a street car in Oakland for one year. He then taught grammar school in San Ramon, California, for two years. They moved to Port Costa in 1913.
In Port Costa, California, he taught school and was also Principal of the grammar school. He was very dedicated to his teaching profession and was also a talented instructor in music and voice. He taught here for 26 years.
For many years he was organist and choir leader in St. Patrick’s Church in Port Costa and also in the neighboring city of Crockett in that parish church.
My mother, Bertha Ellen McIver kept busy raising the family of six children and church activities.
In 1939 my father suffered a fatal heart attack. He was interned at St. Joseph’s cemetery in San Peblo, California. (PS: Death certificate indicates death was caused by Chronic Nephritis. There is also reason to believe he had diabetes).
After my father’s death my mother stayed on in the family home visiting her family from time to time.
In 1954 she took seriously ill and was hospitalized in Martinez, California, had surgery and passed away. She was interned in St. Joseph’s in San Pablo, California.
