Faustina McIver[1]

-
Name Faustina McIver [2] - Sister Damian McIver (Faustina McIver) was the daughter of John McIver and Emily Harrington, born October 1, 1873, at Newton, Prince Edward Island, the seventh of ten children.
Sister Damian, as she was later called in religious life, entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet at St. Paul, MN, on August 27, 1900. She made her final profession of vows on August 15, 1910.
Sister Damian taught school before she entered the Community. With this advanced experience it was fitting that she dedicates her religious life to the cause of Catholic education. As a young Sister she was assigned to teach elementary grades where she labored with marked success working on the various grade levels until 1932. She was principal of St. Luke’s School from 1929-1932. It was, however, in grade eight that Sister seemed most needed, and for many years she was assigned that particular grade. Her work at the high school level began at St. Mary’s School in Morris, Minnesota in 1932. She taught high school in Graceville, Minnesota, the Academy of the Holy Angels, Minneapolis, and St. John’s Academy, Jamestown, North Dakota.
As a teacher Sister Damian was much loved by students and their parents, many of whom came to Bethany for short visits during her final years. Sister Damian had a brilliant mind and the ability of getting her point across to those most difficult to reach. She brought to her students not only the necessary preparation and the required knowledge, but a personality pleasing and attractive. Her grace of manner and interest in her work left an imprint on all with whom she came in contact. Sister was a truly dedicated teacher, firm but understanding. Her kindness and motherly concern won the love and cooperation of her young charges
Finally, because of ill health and advancing year in 1954, Sister Damian retired to Bethany Convent, St. Paul, where she remained until her death on October 29, 1963, in the sixty-first year of her religious life. Sister Damian’s own devoted sister, Sister Mary Charles, of Bethany was constantly at her side, and her four nieces, all of whom are Sisters of St. Joseph were among the pallbearers. Her remains were laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Paul, Minnesota.
