    • OBITUARY:
Roland J. Jacques, age 83, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed peacefully on May 1, 2018. Roland was born in Van Buren, Maine and is survived by his wife Catherine Jacques. He served in the U.S. Army, 3rd U.S. Infantry Division while stationed in Korea during the Korean war. He and Catherine raised their four children; Lisa Brown (Karl Brown), Kenneth Jacques, Laura Sorrentino (Tim Sorrentino) and Amy Jacques (Ralph Wessell) in Avon, Connecticut. Roland leaves behind three loving grandchildren; Taylor Laiacona, Gabriel Laiacona and Sierra Wessell. He is survived by his brother Harold Jacques of Florida and his sister Emily (Tina) Morel of Connecticut. Roland retired from the Town of Avon as Superintendent of Public Works. He was an expert mechanical diagnostician and was celebrated for saving Avon money with his skill at creatively repurposing military surplus equipment and vehicles for Town use. He was also an auxiliary Avon policeman, an honorary Avon Volunteer Fireman and an active member of St. Ann's parish. Roland and Catherine relocated to Ormond Beach, Florida where Roland was a well loved communicant and volunteer of St. Brendan's parish and school, and a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus. His volunteer work at the church led him to begin using his skills assisting his friends, neighbors and his community with a variety of home repairs and projects. A memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Ormond Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Halifax Humane Society.
