- OBITUARY:
The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, of Velma FitzGerald, dear wife of Donald Lewis, of Bayside at the age of 77 years. She is the daughter of late Alfonsus and Bernetta (nee McIvor) Brown.
Besides her loving husband, Don, she is survived by two daughters, Heather Hirtle of Charlottetown and Heidi FitzGerald of St. Stephen, N. B. and also Don’s children, Susan (Oscar) Arsenault, Marie (Myrl) Ramsay, Juanita Lewis, Mary (Douglas) Gallant, Marion (Jimmy) Jeffery, Vernon (Donna) Lewis, Brian (Barb) Lewis, Helen Lewis (J.R. Yeo), Robert (Jeannie) Lewis, Hazen Lewis, Olga MacMillian (Richard Casey), Henson (Carolyn) MacMillian and Eva (Gordon) Rodgerson.
Also survived by brother and sisters Ray (Eileen) Brown, Iris (Ken) Nicholson, Joan FitzGerald, Mary White and Betty (Ralph) Callaghan and grandchildren Morgan, Katrina, Nathaniel, Timothy, Richard, Samuel and Heather and one great- granddaughter Eva and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in the Lewis family.
Besides her parents, her son Douglas, she was pre-deceased by husband Vernon FitzGerald and sister Lillian Knight and twin sister in infancy and brothers Victor, Jim, Desmond and Ted and children Anna Lewis and Shirley Currie.
She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Wellington, a member of C.N.W.E., also a member of C.L.C. and many other organizations in her life.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to East Prince Hospice Palliative Care or Prince County Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Resting at the Evangeline Funeral Home, Urbainville, until Friday, then to Immaculate Conception Church in Wellington for funeral mass at 2 p.m. Visitation shall be received on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment shall be in the church cemetery.
